Welcome to 仏教の生き様 (Bukkyou no Ikizama), a blog where I talk about Japan, the Japanese language and Japanese culture. As mentioned in the last post I'll share some haikus every week, so here are the ones for this week. 


About Haiku: 

Haiku (俳句) is a type of short-form poetry originally from Japan. Traditional Japanese haiku consists of three phrases that contain a kireji, or "cutting word",17 on (phonetic units similar to syllables) in a 5, 7, 5 pattern and a kigo, or seasonal reference. (Read full)


Haiku for this week:

春の夜の 輝く星や 君でしょう (Haru no yo no | kagayaku hoshi ya | kimi deshou):

A shining star | On a Spring evening | Or is it you

桃色の 君の笑顔や 桜見る (Momoiro no | kimi no egao ya | sakura miru):

The pink | Smile of yours | Or do I watch cherry blossom

青空を 流れる雲や 君の影 (Aozora wo | nagareru kumo ya | kimi no kage):

The floating cloud | In the blue sky | Or your shadow

夏海で 世界の果ての 続く旅 (Natsuumi de | sekai no hate no | tsudzuku tabi):

In the summer sea | To the corner of the world | The journey continues

夏雨の 涼しい天気 君の夢 (Natsu ame no | suzushī tenki | kimi no yume):

Summer rain's | Refreshing weather | Your dreams


Note: Please note that I am a Japanese language learner and not a teacher, so there might be mistakes in the ones I post.

“Aaah!” he screamed silently. “What does he even think of us? Going on shouting the whole day at us while he keeps lying on that chair like an old fat dog,” he said, shifting his focus back to the laptop screen.  “Oh, don’t mind him. You know he has been like this ever since he became manager. Being bossy all the time, when he can’t do hell.” said someone, someone he knew. The Old Bullmastiff (Ch-4)

 What he entered was an average-looking 1BHk flat on a silent street. He was warmly welcomed by an oldish-looking fellow who looked thirsty but continued to wag his tail. “Yeh my boy, I am back. Did you have anything yet?” He asked, checking his bowl, which was clean as new. It seemed that his friend really enjoyed his lunch. As he entered, he saw a photo lying on his desk. Thick black hair with capturing eyes. Anyone who saw him looking at the photo could have noticed the look of sadness and affection. But this looked like a daily routine as he quickly got back to his chores, and went to take a bath. Having said that, his face still had that look as if something important was missing from his life. He came back, changed and sat on the couch after making some tea. He has had a long day, thought the untouched cup of tea, as he slept peacefully on the couch.  The next day he woke up to the pleasant smell of green tea with honey and lemon. “Oh, you are up! Kick-starting the Journey

Hello everyone! Welcome to 仏教の生き様 (bukkyou no ikizama), a  blog series where I talk about how I learn about Buddhism , its  connection with Japan and share my learnings with you.  In this blog, I'll talk about my initial steps to learn about Buddhism. Buddhism being a vast topic, I needed an opening to start with Buddhism.  For the same, I asked students, studying in the 2nd year of BA (Hons.) Japanese program in EFLU , Hyderabad regarding their interests in Buddhism and what they want to know about Buddhism in Japan. Eventually, I was led to ponder on the following 2 questions: 1) How Buddhism came to Japan? 2) Why did Buddhism influence Japanese people while there were other ethnic religions?   Hereon, taking these as my lead, I'll be studying these as topics and will address these in my future blogs , so keep connected as we learn together!
