Haiku (俳句)

 Hello everyone!

Welcome to 仏教の生き様 (Bukkyou no Ikizama), a blog where I talk about Japan, the Japanese language and Japanese culture. I recently developed an interest in Haikus, a beautiful style of poetry in the Japanese language and started writing them. From now, I'll try to share some of them every week, so stay connected. 


About Haiku: 

Haiku (俳句) is a type of short-form poetry originally from Japan. Traditional Japanese haiku consists of three phrases that contain a kireji, or "cutting word",17 on (phonetic units similar to syllables) in a 5, 7, 5 pattern and a kigo, or seasonal reference. (Read full)


Haiku for this week:

夏雨の 涼しい心 響く歌 (Natsu ame no | suzushī kokoro | hibiku uta):

Summer rain's | Refreshing heart | Resonating song

梅雨の夜の 心の底に 波が出る (Tsuyu no yo no | kokoro no soko ni | nami ga deru):

On an Autumn night | Waves come up | At the bottom of my heart

夏の日や 田舎の原で 笑う犬 (Natsu no hi ya | inaka no hara de | warau inu):

A summer day | In a countryside field | A dog smiles

暑い日々 いつ終わるのか この学期 (Atsui hibi | itsu owaru no ka | kono gakki):

Hot days | This semester | When will it end

冬君の 白いコートは 心刺す (Fuyu kimi no | shiroi kōto wa | kokoro sasu):

In winter your's | Whitecoat | Pierces my heart


Note: Please note that I am a Japanese language learner and not a teacher, so there might be mistakes in the ones I post.

Going on shouting the whole day at us while he keeps lying on that chair like an old fat dog,” he said, shifting his focus back to the laptop screen.  “Oh, don’t mind him. The Old Bullmastiff (Ch-4)

 What he entered was an average-looking 1BHk flat on a silent street. He was warmly welcomed by an oldish-looking fellow who looked thirsty but continued to wag his tail. “Yeh my boy, I am back. Did you have anything yet?” He asked, checking his bowl, which was clean as new. It seemed that his friend really enjoyed his lunch. As he entered, he saw a photo lying on his desk. Thick black hair with capturing eyes. Anyone who saw him looking at the photo could have noticed the look of sadness and affection. But this looked like a daily routine as he quickly got back to his chores, and went to take a bath. Having said that, his face still had that look as if something important was missing from his life. He came back, changed and sat on the couch after making some tea. He has had a long day, thought the untouched cup of tea, as he slept peacefully on the couch.  The next day he woke up to the pleasant smell of green tea with honey and lemon. “Oh, you are up! Kick-starting the Journey

Hello everyone! Welcome to 仏教の生き様 (bukkyou no ikizama), a  blog series where I talk about how I learn about Buddhism , its  connection with Japan and share my learnings with you.  In this blog, I'll talk about my initial steps to learn about Buddhism. Buddhism being a vast topic, I needed an opening to start with Buddhism.  For the same, I asked students, studying in the 2nd year of BA (Hons.) Japanese program in EFLU , Hyderabad regarding their interests in Buddhism and what they want to know about Buddhism in Japan. Eventually, I was led to ponder on the following 2 questions: 1) How Buddhism came to Japan? 2) Why did Buddhism influence Japanese people while there were other ethnic religions?   Hereon, taking these as my lead, I'll be studying these as topics and will address these in my future blogs , so keep connected as we learn together!
